Goblin in 1975
You may not have heard of this Italian rock band and its musicians: Agostino Marangolo (percussion), Antonio Marangolo (saxophone), Walter Martino (percussion), Massimo Morante (guitar), Fabio Pignatelli (bass) and Claudio Simonetti (keyboards). They composed and played much of the music for the films of Dario Argento. The thing that excites me about this group, is that they tend to treat rock music using 'classical' techniques. I enjoy their use of timpani, synthesizers (liquid sounds), unusual time signatures, delay and pounding, menacing polyrhythms.
Scores to check out: Profondo Rosso (1975), Suspiria (1977), Patrick (1978) [Italian release version], Tenebrae (1982) and Phenomena (1985).
