Mirwais Ahmadzaï (b. 1960)
When the title track to Lee Tamahori’s Bond film Die Another Day (2002) came out, I whooped for joy. The music was filled with bleepy, synthetic, creamy, plastiky perfection of processed fluorescent sounds. Hurtling to check who the producer was, and discovered the world of Mirwais Ahmadzai. His father Afghan, his mother Italian: this mixes contrasting musical traditions!
His album Production (2000) lets you dip more into his sound world, with some very clean, gentle tracks such as Paradise (Not for Me).
