Val Guest (1911-2006)
Val Guest was the director of the Quatermass pictures. This was undiluted British sci-fi, something rare today.
In the second Quatermass film: Quatermass 2 (a.k.a. Enemy from Space, 1957), I have a vivid memory of a scene in which very old cars drive anachronistically into a space-age oil refinery. The setting made the cars look old, the cars made the refinery look modern.
Guest’s films had something genuine and mysterious about them. A master of British sci-fi.
