Monty Python

Monty Python
The Monty Python Team: L-R: Terry Jones, Graham Champam, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin

I grew up with Monty Python’s Flying Circus in the 70s. The depth of the references in their writing didn’t become clear until later. What enthused was the originality of their surrealism as they related unrelated things. I’m sounding like a philosopher. “Philosophy? What sort of thing is that?” Favourite TV series sketch?: Thrust. “Ahem!”

See their films if you have not already: Monty Python & the Holy Grail (1975), Jabberwocky (1977), Life of Brian (1979), The Meaning of Life (1983).

I’m also extremely fond of Terry Gilliam’s films and animations. His film Brazil (1985) (director’s cut), is an masterpiece with a good score by Michael Kamen.
